Respect is a value that we should be teaching by example. Being respectful of people and the opportunites living in our country afford is yet another way to demonstrate the caliber of a person we are. A respectful person does not name call. This behavios belittles the person they are trying to label, but it also belittles the person who acts in this way. Labeling others is a form of mental laziness. We are not labels. We are not democrats or republicans, or any other political affiliation, we are people, first and foremost, and should be treating one another with respect. If we cannot respect one another, we are revealing that we have no self-respect either nor self-control.
Children who are not taught respect grow up to be adults who have no respect. It is up to us as adults to demomstrate to them what respect looks like.
